great white shark Filmmaker Jeff Kurr Talks 'Great White shark '

Jeff Kurr knows a thing or two about sharks.

During his two-plus decades with Discovery Channel's Shark Week, the LA-based filmmaker has captured some of the most ground-breaking and dazzling footage of these feared creatures of the sea. This year, Kurr focuses his attention on the great white shark's return to our shallow waters and sandy beaches in "Great White Invasion."

To get psyched for Shark Week 2011, we sat down with Kurr to discuss all things cautious sharks, endangered sharks, and even a few frisky sharks.

What first motivated you to film sharks?

Well, very early on I thought, 'I'd really like to do that some day.' And lo and behold, through fate, luck, and being blessed, I had an opportunity to work on a Shark Week show way back in '91. It was pretty successful and I was offered another show, and another show, and here we are 20-something years later and still doing it. It's the best office in the world, to swim with sharks. It's an incredible job and I'm blessed to have it.

What has most changed over the 21 years that you have been filming sharks?

Well, it's been an incredible voyage, if you will, because really in the last 21 years we have learned so much about shark behavior and it's really due to all the great new technology out there. Filming the program "Ultimate Air Jaws," which was on Shark Week last year, we used a camera that shoots 1,000 frames per second. What that allowed us to do was to slow down the attacks by great whites from one second of real time (footage) to 45 seconds or a minute actually on tape. It allows you to see incredible detail from these sharks that you can't see with the naked eye ... you can literally count the teeth ... it's phenomenal.

Brandon Marshall borderline personality disorder

What is Borderline Personality Disorder?

Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a personality disorder described as a prolonged disturbance of personality function in a person (generally over the age of eighteen years, although it is also found in adolescents), characterized by depth and variability of moods. The disorder typically involves unusual levels of instability in mood; black and white thinking, or splitting; the disorder often manifests itself in idealization and devaluation episodes, as well as chaotic and unstable interpersonal relationships, self-image, identity, and behavior; as well as a disturbance in the individual’s sense of self. In extreme cases, this disturbance in the sense of self can lead to periods of dissociation.[wikipedia]

Brandon Marshall, Miami Dolphins player, revealed on Sunday that he was diagnosed earlier this year with borderline personality disorder.

Marshall said he wants to let people know about his own BPD to raise awareness.

“The longer that BPD, Borderline Personality Disorder, goes untreated the worse it gets as you all have seen my life publicly,” Marshall said. “I would have thrown away my career, and there was a good possibility my life. I’m still suffering from the consequences of this. Another reason why I am so passionate it is because I may lose my wife still and that hurts me. I am a very passionate person.

Marshall said he thinks his Borderline Personality Disorder kicked in heavily after his rookie season, 2006 after what he called “traumatic relationships with family members and a past relationship.”

Marshall’s most recent brush with trouble came in April, when Broward Sherriff’s Office officers were called to Marshall’s Southwest Ranches home. They arrested Michi Nogami-Marshall, Marshall’s wife. The original police report stated Marshall’s wife said she stabbed him in the stomach in self-defense, and there was no blood on broken glass to support Marshall’s claim of falling over a vase. Marshall reiterated the vase claim to the Broward State Attorney’s Office in June. Friday, the office announced no charges would be filed.

Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported on Saturday that the 27-year-old underwent “3 months of treatment and therapy, psychological and neurological exams at Boston’s McLean Hospital.”

Right after three months of treatment and therapy, psychological and neurological exams at Boston’s McLean Hospital, the training ground for Harvard University medical students, Marshall believes he’s lastly on the root of his struggles.

Now, nano-sized batteries to power mobiles! | Battery in a nanowire is as small as energy storage can possibly get

WASHINGTON: An Indian-origin scientist-led team in the US has packagedlithium ion batteries into asingle nanowire, which they claim could soon be a rechargeable power source for new generations ofnanoelectronics.

Prof Pulickel Ajayan and colleagues at Rice University claim their creation is as small as such devices can possibly get, in their research published in American Chemical Society journal 'Nano Letters'.

In their research, the scientists tested two versions of their battery.

The first is a sandwich with nickel or tin anode, polyethylene oxide electrolyte and polyaniline cathode layers; it was built as proof that lithium ions would move efficiently through anode to electrolyte and then to supercapacitor-like cathode that gives the device ability to charge and discharge.

The second packs the same capabilities into a single nanowire. The researchers built centimetre-scale arrays containing thousands of nanowire devices, each 150 nanometers wide. A nanometer is a billionth of a meter, thousands of times smaller than a human hair.

Rakhi Sawant ka press conference | Rakhi Sawant to host a chat show

For an outspoken starlet who loves her plastic surgeon and keeps the media waiting for two hours, Rakhi Sawant — pouting, glamorous, crass, apologetic — is a bloody good sport.

At a press conference in Delhi to announce the launch of a comedy show about bizarre household anecdotes (Gajab Desh Ki Ajab Kahaniyaan, UTV), she fielded questions with — one can’t call it ‘grace’ — a panache she has often been associated with.

Reporters have been flown in for the press conference from Bhopal, Indore, Mumbai. Why was she two hours late, they ask, annoyed. Her sari, she says, got stolen. This is her excuse. She’s smiling, hair perfect, make up perfect, figure perfect.

Everyone laughs. Someone from the back asks her if she thinks she’s a bharitya nari, what with that snug blouse and low waist. She thrusts her torso out and she dares you —is anything uncovered? Huh?! Kuch dikh raha hai aapko? Then smiles.

Catcalls from the back of the hall.

Sawant knows her audience, the reporters, the cameramen asking her to pose ‘thoda aise side se’. She knows what they want. She invented the gallery she plays to, and still manages an innocence, a lack of self-consciousness in her raunchy replies.

The questions were bizarre, unprofessional. Which man does she want? Ramdev. A flurry of priceless quotes: “Apke liye Baba honge, mere woh swami hain”. She’s a fan of his kapalbharti technique — “Woh jo andar bahar andar bahar kartein hain — I love it!” More hooting.

When will she visit Bihar, asks a Patna correspondent. When Nitish invites me, she says. All answers are pat-pat. “Laloo had invited me. I met his whole family, his wife, his kids.”

What about social media? “Of course main Twitter par hoon!” Why not active? Time to show claws: “Why? It’s not like the others do it themselves. Everyone has PR people. I want to be original.”

Some man tries to get a bit cordial with her. A bodyguard slaps his wrist. She smiles even then. Bechara. Get in line. Aapki bhi baari ayegi. Camera phones are out in hordes. Some taking strategic top angle shots. She’s sitting on a throne, quite the queen B. Everyone else is saying, “Rakhi! Rakhi! Rakhi ji! Ma’am!”

Ma’am trashes arch rival Mallika Sherawhat. “Usko abroad se ab phenk diya hai woh Jackie Chan Whacky Chan ne” — “She’s been thrown out from abroad by that Jackie Chan or whatever he is.”

She also says she has no interest in Bollywood. Then yells, I am original! I am glamorous! She keeps saying this. And the way she keeps her audience in splits, poses for pictures, replies when asked anything, everything — it all suggests that despite the plastic and silicon (and not least of all for picking up a 3,000-calorie almond biscotti from the refreshment counter on her way out), she is a little more real than her tinsel town peers.

Facebook, Twitter leading to identity crises | leaving obsessed generation with identity crises’

London: A leading scientist has indicated that social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter have created a generation obsessed with themselves, who have short attention spans and a childlike desire for constant feedback on their lives.

Baroness Greenfield, professor of pharmacology at Oxford University, believes the growth of Internet “friendships” – as well as greater use of computer games – could effectively “rewire” the brain.

This can result in reduced concentration, a need for instant gratification and poor non-verbal skills, such as the ability to make eye contact during conversations.

“What concerns me is the banality of so much that goes out on Twitter,” the Daily Mail quoted Baroness Greenfield, former director of research body the Royal Institution, as saying.
“Why should someone be interested in what someone else has had for breakfast? It reminds me of a small child (saying): “Look at me Mummy, I’m doing this”, “Look at me Mummy I’m doing that”.

“It’s almost as if they’re in some kind of identity crisis. In a sense it’s keeping the brain in a sort of time warp,” Greenfield added.

The academic suggested that some Facebook users feel the need to become “mini celebrities” who are watched and admired by others on a daily basis.

They do things that are “Facebook worthy” because the only way they can define themselves is by “people knowing about them”.

“It’s almost as if people are living in a world that’s not a real world, but a world where what counts is what people think of you or (if they) can click on you,” she added.

Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa sends resignation to Gadkari, to meet Governor

NEW DELHI  Ending three days of suspense, Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Sunday sent his resignation to BJP president Nitin Gadkari and expressed his “full support” to the party.

Mr. Yeddyurappa, who was asked by the central leadership of the party to quit after the State Lokayukta indicted him in a mining scam, faxed the letter to Mr. Gadkari who accepted it, party sources said in New Delhi.

In the letter, the Chief Minister has given reasons for the delay in putting in his papers and cited astrological issues as the main cause, they said.

The sources said Mr. Yeddyurappa, who became Chief Minister after installing BJP’s first government in the South, will seek an appointment with Governor H.R. Bhardwaj and formally submit his resignation.

After his tense standoff with the BJP leadership, Mr. Yeddyurappa had said he would tender his resignation on Sunday after the party reportedly assured him that his views would be considered while choosing his successor.

Sixty-eight-year-old Yeddyurappa made the fresh affirmation on Saturday, falling in line with the directive of the party leadership which took a tough stand.

The BJP Parliamentary Board had on Thursday asked Mr. Yeddyurappa to resign immediately, but the Lingayat strongman mobilised his loyalist MLAs and ministers who insisted on his continuance, in a sign of defiance.

However, he issued a press statement on Saturday saying that he would step down this afternoon.

In his letter to Mr. Gadkari, Mr. Yeddyurappa vowed to “stand by the party” and expressed “full support” to it, the sources said.

Mr. Yeddyurappa’s successor is also likely to be announced on Sunday, with the names of Lok Sabha MP Sadanand Gowda, Ministers V.S. Acharya and Suresh Kumar S doing the rounds for the top post.

However, a dark horse from the Yeddyurappa camp may also emerge as a choice for the job.

Mr. Yeddyurappa has been opposing the appointment of BJP general secretary Anant Kumar and his cabinet colleague Jagdish Shattar, also from the Lingayat community, as the next chief minister.

Its pay day its pay day

And its Friday...

Could today get any better!!

So I initally did this payday wishlist last Sunday and since then, the last week has been a bit of a shopping frenzy. I'm still on the hunt for something to wear tomorrow night- thinking an after work dash tonight to Topshop (even though the one in Durham is rubbish).

Considering last month I haven't been on the spending ban, I've actually saved way more money than I did when on the shopping ban. See I told you shopping bans were a waste of time. However as its Holly's wedding 4 weeks tomorrow, I am trying to curb the spending this month. So the things I want, I've had to really think about as to whether I need it. I'm still ebaying my life away trying to make some space in my wardrobes, sounds daft but some of my clothes have sentimental value and I don't want to sell them. But needs must.

So what have I got my eye on this month...

Aztec Skirt £165, All Saints BOUGHT
White Cashmire Vest £22, Topshop Boutique
Yellow Envelope Laptop Case £20, Asos RETURNED
Antelope Animal Print Wedges £80, Topshop.
17 Falsify Mascara £6.49, Boots. BOUGHT
Sully Fluropink Halterneck Dress £41, Reiss

If you follow me on Twitter (@raywhoisshe) you will have seen how narked off I am with trying to get one of these embellished All Saints skirts, I'm keep being outbid. However on my lunch on Monday I thought I would quickly check ebay and see if any skirts in my size had been listed. My size in the Aztec Skirt with a buy it now- seriously it was too good to be true. I've bought it and fingers crossed its in good nick. I ordered the Asos clutch for going out this weekend, however its not as nice as it looks on the website (gutted). I doubt the Reiss dress is going to be avaliable in my size as its in the Sale, however I'm off to Newcastle next Saturday with Holly so I'll be checking their store/John Lewis/Fenwicks to see if they have it in.

The animal wedges I think will have to wait until next payday.. you will see why later on. I need a new white vest for Holly's hen do in a smaller size as I'm sick of having to pull my current boutique vest up, as it has a habit of falling down all the blooming time. Managed to get my hands on the Falsify mascara last week- so far I'm quite happy with it- I'll be putting that to the test tomorrow night. I also want some hot rollers, I've got my eyes on the Babyliss 30 Ceramic Rollers, as thats what the hairdresser used on mine and Holly's hair for the trial, Sally's sell them for £55 however I've managed to see them somewhere for £29 with free p+p (I love a good bargain)

Anyway back onto why I won't be buying the Antelope wedges this month, Monday night I got a message on ebay saying that THE ALL SAINTS SHELL SKIRT IN MY SIZE WAS LISTED ON EBAY BRAND NEW WITH TAGS AS A BUY IT NOW (and breathe). I was in two minds as to buy it considering I just bought the Aztec skirt. However after a lot of thinking, I decided to buy it. It came yesterday in the post, and its in immaculate condition, and it fits perfect. Roll on Holly's hen do pt 2 and you'll see the pictures of it in action then. Debating whether to sell the Aztec skirt when it comes however I'm going to hold on to it for a bit while I make my mind up (yeah I'll end up keeping it).

So a massive thank you to Natalie for letting me know about the shell skirt!!!

Massive post for you there!! If you are interested in taking part in your face of the day on here, comment on the post below.

Have a fab weekend and don't do anything I wouldn't do!! xx

Anushka Sharma :Boys used to call me Soda | Anushka spills the beam about Ranveer

Simi Garewal's show is always in news for some reason or the other. Simi's show Simi Selects India's Most Desirable is being talked about as actors like John Abraham, Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor and Abhay Deol have confronted about their real selves and personal relations.

This week's episode has Bollywood's sexy siren Anushka Sharma as the guest.

She spoke about her school days besides her life and career. Anushka said, "Boys used to call me Soda in school days. Soda means serving officers daughters association. I miss those days when I had a very protected life one could get close and bond with other army people that they gradual would become your extended family.

Even today I could be stranded in any part of the country be it a small city, town or district. I just have to find the closest army cantonments and I'll be at home. When I see an army uniform, I feel so happy."

Well we wonder if your 'close friend' Ranveer Singh likes to call you by this name!

Hepatitis rates soar among IV drug users, study finds | Fancy a tattoo? Beware of hepatitis virus

About 10 million injection drug users worldwide have hepatitis C, and 1.3 million have hepatitis B, a new study reports.

Hepatitis can lead to cirrhosis, liver failure and liver cancer.

Researchers analyzed international data and found that rates of hepatitis C infection among injection drug users (IDUs) were 60 to 80 percent in 25 countries and greater than 80 percent in 12 other countries.

These countries included Spain (80 percent), Norway (76 percent), Germany (75 percent), France (74 percent), United States (73 percent), China (67 percent), Canada (64 percent), Italy (81 percent), Portugal (83 percent), Pakistan (84 percent), the Netherlands (86 percent), Thailand (90 percent) and Mexico (97 percent).

Lower rates were seen in New Zealand (52 percent), Australia (55 percent) and the United Kingdom (50 percent), the researchers noted.

The countries believed to have the largest number of IDUs infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV) are China (1.6 million), the United States (1.5 million) and Russia (1.3 million), the investigators found.

Rates of hepatitis B infection were 5 to 10 percent in 21 countries and more than 10 percent in 10 countries. The highest rates were in Vietnam (20 percent), Estonia (19 percent), Saudi Arabia (18 percent) and Taiwan (17 percent). The United Kingdom had the highest rate in Western Europe at 9 percent. The rate in the United States was 12 percent.

The study, released to coincide with World Hepatitis Day, is published online July 28 in The Lancet.

"The public-health response to blood-borne virus transmission in IDUs has mainly centered on HIV. Maintenance and strengthening of the response to HIV in IDUs remains crucial, but the significance of viral hepatitis needs to receive greater attention than it does at present," Paul Nelson, from the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, and colleagues wrote.

"Efforts to prevent, treat, and reduce harms related to liver disease in IDUs are essential -- especially in situations in which HIV has successfully been prevented or managed -- because the large numbers of IDUs infected with HCV and significant morbidity resulting from this infection mean that the health and economic costs of HCV transmitted by injected drug use might be as high as (or higher than) those of HIV," the authors added.

"Nonetheless, HCV treatment is underused. Part of the reason for this neglect is the high cost, which will remain a substantial barrier to increasing of treatment coverage in low-resource settings until costs are reduced," the researchers concluded.

Trojan asteroid seen in Earth's orbit by Wise telescope

Astronomers have detected an asteroid not far from Earth, moving in the same orbit around the Sun. The 200-300m-wide rock sits in front of our planet at a gravitational "sweet spot", and poses no danger.

Its position in the sky makes it a so-called Trojan asteroid - a type previously detected only at Jupiter, Neptune and Mars.

2010 TK7, as it is known, was found by Nasa's Wise telescope. The discovery is reported in this week's Nature journal.

It is a fascinating observation because the relative stability and proximity of Trojans would make possible targets for astronaut missions when we eventually go beyond the space station.

2010 TK7 is probably not the rock of choice, simply because it travels too far above and below the plane of Earth's orbit, which would require a lot of fuel to reach it.

Nonetheless, its detection means it is highly likely there are other, more suitable Trojans out there waiting to be found.

The difficulty is the viewing geometry that puts any Trojan, from the perspective of an Earth-based telescope, in bright skies.
It took an orbiting telescope sensitive to infrared light to pick up 2010 TK7.

Wise, the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer launched in 2009, examined more than 500 Near-Earth Objects (NEOs), 123 of which were new to science.

The authors of the Nature paper sifted through data on these rocks, looking for the candidates that might be Trojans.

Follow-up work on the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope confirmed the status of 2010 TK7.

It traces quite a complex path at its orbital point. Currently, it is about 80 million km from Earth, and should come no closer than about 25 million km.

The team says its orbit appears stable at least for the next 10,000 years.

2010 TK7's existence should not really be a surprise. Jupiter, Neptune and Mars all have collections of rocks sitting in the so-called Lagrange points 60 degrees ahead of or behind the planets in their orbits.

In the case of Jupiter, the number of Trojans now tops 1,000 rocks.

"These objects are difficult to find from Earth, simply because they're not very big and they're pretty faint, and they're close to the Sun as seen from Earth," explained Christian Veillet from the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope and a co-author on the Nature study.

"But we can find them from space, and future satellites will likely find some more. We think that there are others which will be very close to the Earth and have motions that make them relatively easy to reach. So, they could be potential targets to go to with spacecraft," he told BBC News.

joan of arc | Neil Gaiman singing a song about Joan of Arc

Minnesota Public Radio wrapped up another fabulous season of WITS last Friday. Besides being the first thing I’ve ever bought season tickets for, WITS is best described as the very nerdy, slightly tipsy, younger cousin of A Prairie Home Companion. There are authors, there are musicians, there are the creators of MST3K heckling from a balcony seat. In other words, you’d love it.

This season wrapped up with Neil Gaiman, singer/songwriter/charmingimaginaryboyfriend Josh Ritter, and phone call-ins by special guests Wil Wheaton and Adam Savage. I thought you’d all get a kick out of this clip from the show, where Gaiman sings a song he wrote about Joan of Arc, accompanied by Ritter, a brass band, and the WITS house musicians.

If you aren’t lucky enough to live in, or be visiting, the Twin Cities when WITS is recorded,

sidney rice | Seahawks Agree to Terms with WR Sidney Rice

NFL Insider Jay Glazer is reporting the Seahawks have agreed to terms with former Vikings WR Sidney Rice, on a 5 year deal. He feels it's worth noting it isn't signed yet, but that's a given, no FA contracts can be signed until Friday. Also, from other reports we've heard it seems the Seahawks are looking to have Rice work out, which means they want to give him a full medical before signing the contract. If his hip is still a problem, the deal could still fall through (and it can still change for other reasons, this is only an agreement).

Schefter reports the deal is up to $44 million over those five years, with $18.5 million guaranteed. Jason LaCanfora further details that of the $44 million, $3 million is in pro bowl escalators. Sean Jensen confirms the contract is pending a physical. The contract compares well to Santonio Holmes' 5-year, $50 million contract with $24 million guaranteed).

We've discussed throughout the season how the Seahawks could do well with a #1 WR. Sidney Rice is an interesting fit. He is an injury concern, having missed quite a few games in his career, but he is young and has one very impressive season to his name. In 2009, he caught 83 balls for 1312 yards and 8 TDs. Rice's upside is basically Arizona's Larry Fitzgerald, a kind of super-possession receiver. Not a great deep threat (though Rice is certainly fast enough), but someone who makes very valuable catches in very difficult situations. Seahawks fan Doug Farrar recently did a good writeup on Rice, go and read it if you want to learn to know the WR.

Barring injury problems (and the deal falling through), this gives us a pretty great starting couple in Sidney Rice and Mike Williams. Both are big receivers skilled at outreaching cornerbacks and making catches in difficult situations. This is great for a mediocre QB situation like we have, all the QB has to do is toss it up there, to either one, and most of the time they'll come up with the ball.

First Windows 'Mango' Phone Finally Unveiled | Microsoft signs off on Windows Phone Mango

The first smartphone running the long-awaited Windows Phone "Mango" operating system was unveiled this morning in Japan. The manufacturer: Fujitsu-Toshiba, who plans to bring the device to Japanese stores and carriers in September. It's not expected to come to the U.S.

The phone, known as the IS12T will be the first device to run the major revamp of the Windows Phone operating system to version 7.5, an update codenamed "Mango." Coming about a year after the original launch of of Windows Phone, Mango brings with it several new features (Microsoft claims 500), including multitasking and a Groups feature that has deep integration with social networks like Facebook and Twitter. It also has powerful voice-to-text features. (For the full run-down of Mango, check out PCMag's preview here, or click on the slideshow below.)

The IS12T has other features that go beyond the new OS. The phone is said to be water- and dust-proof, and boasts both 32GB of storage as well as a camera with a whopping 13.2 megapixels. Its processor will be a 1GHz Snapdragon chip from Qualcomm. Users will also be able to use the phone to work on Microsoft Office documents as well as share data through Microsoft's cloud service, SkyDrive.
Microsoft officially unveiled Mango in May. The market share of Windows Phone is relatively small compared to other major OSes like Apple's iOS, Google's Android, and RIM's BlackBerry, pegged at only 2 percent of all smartphones in use, according to data from Millenial Media. However, IDC predicts that Windows Phone will capture 20 percent of the market by 2015.
Other partners making Mango Windows Phones include HTC, Samsung, Acer, ZTE, LG, and of course Nokia, which announced a major strategy shift to Windows Phone in January. Nokia is expected to unveil its first Mango phone, possibly called the "Sea Ray," in October.
As for the IS12T, it'll be on Japanese carriers KDDI and Okinawa Cellular. No prices were announced. The unveiling comes a day after Microsoft said it had sent the final Mango code to manufacturers. You can watch a video report on the Tokyo launch event from Network World below.

Your face, my place??

As you all know I hate/can't/will not/look terrible on face of the day posts. I have done it once and once only here and I don't think I'll be doing it again (I may do one of my mac application).
I love reading fotd posts on all your blogs, as its a fab way to see how products work on different skin tones, and the diffences in how you use/apply products. However I was thinking of a way to showcase different looks on here..

Thats where you come in.

I was wondering if any of you want to post a typical face of the day on here?

It could be your normal daytime look or a night time, or something totally out of your comfort zone. If you are interested in doing this, leave a comment below with your email address and I'll email you asap.

*The title of this post is from Air Traffic's song Charlotte- use it as a chat up line on a night out- I dare you*

Batiste does it again...

Where do the talents of the inventors of Batiste end??

Sweet and Spirited Boho is the newest batiste fragrence on the block, and its replaced Blush as my all time favourite. Believe it or not, even though I swear by batiste in keeping the greasy mop top at bay, I'm not keen on the fragrence of the original or tropical, and will only use blush. However since recieving this in the post a fortnight ago, I've been prefering to use this instead.

What do Batiste say??

Boho is "the must-have product when touring this summer’s hottest festivals. Perfect for girls who like to rock a “live-permanently-in-a-tent-but–still-manage-to-look-fabulous-even-without water” vibe!"

What I have noticed about the "newer" Batiste products is the fab step by step instructions on how to use the product on the back on the bottle.
Very impressive!!

You all know how Batiste works and I know that a lot of bloggers swear by the product. I would be lost without it, as I use this to prolong the colour in my red hair. Also I have noticed that after using batiste on my hair, there is never any residue/powder left- shame this can't be said for other brands.

I will let you in on a little secret- my brother swears by Batiste. He claims he doesn't use it, however on a morning you can hear him sneaking into my room and then him spraying it, before running out and denying all knowledge of using it. I've also noticed that my bottle of boho is going down quicker than my blush, so its safe to say that the boho scent is popular with blokes too!!

Batiste is avaliable from all supermarkets and chemists rrp £2.99 for 330ml.

*this product was provided for review purposes, all views and opinions are my own (its Batiste- everyone loves it)*

amzn | Amazon (AMZN) Latest Tech Leader to Beat Expectations

Markets sagged Tuesday as lawmakers in Washington continue to argue over resolution to the debt ceiling. Republican leaders continue to push for a temporary plan while President Obama is threatening to veto any legislation that doesn't provide a long-term solution to the debt ceiling. Stocks held in for most of the day, but sold off hardest in the last hour and a half of trading. While there has been some weakness, investors are mostly acting as if a deal is an inevitability.

After the close, Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) became the next of the tech leaders to report earnings, and they didn't disappoint. AMZN reported EPS of $0.41 vs $0.35 per share and revenues of $9.91B vs. $9.37B estimated, and the stock is surging higher after hours (currently about 6%). While the jobs picture remains bleak in the US, corporate earnings, especially from leading companies, continue to impress.

*DISCLOSURE: Scott Redler is long DANG, SPY, MS, MCP, AAPL, SLV, V, BAC, YNDX, LVS, JPM, FXE. Long AMZN calls, short AMZN stock.

tarvaris jackson | Seahawks Agree to Terms With QB Tarvaris Jackson

Danny O'Neil is now reporting that the Seattle Seahawks have signed agreed to terms with QB Tarvaris Jackson. This confirms claims originally stated by Dave Softy Mahler of 950KJR,

Jackson was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2nd round of the NFL Draft in 2006 out of Alabama State. He is 6'2, 225 and has a career 24 TDs to 22 interceptions. He's passed for 3,984 yards, has a career 76.6 passer rating with a 58.7% completion percentage.

Jackson wasn't particularly well-received in Minnesota despite playing quite well at times. In an interview with Judd Zulgad, he stated, "Since Day 1, I don't really think I was really welcome here anyways, because nobody really knew who I was, being from a smaller school. A lot more things probably play into it, too. It's just the way things are. I can't help that."

Just the way things happened, like the way I was thrown into there, the way where it was me or Brett [Favre] or all this stuff. Just a lot of different things played into it that kind of soured our relationship. Fans are going to be fans."

This relationship with the fans is probably not going to be much rosier here in Seattle. He's replacing (or appears to be replacing - will have to earn starting job obviously) a guy that's been here for a decade and has a very hard-core, loyal following. The hate and hysteria has already started but I would just caution a little optimism and a wait-and-see approach. He's been fairly inconsistent; flashing brilliance at times but then struggling at others, but could surprise some people. In my mind, he's not too different from Kevin Kolb. Kolb had some big games and some pretty terrible games, he just had his chance to show off more recently. If you look at the numbers, though, neither player is particularly impressive.

Judd Zulgad added his analysis when talking to 710ESPN as well. He said, "My thoughts are this, you would get - or Seattle would get - a quarterback who looks very good in practice, has a big-time arm and athletically is gifted."

"Tarvaris has really dedicated himself to being in shape, and coming into which ever camp he goes into in far better condition than he did last year. That being said, you've seen this guy play in games, I've seen him play in games, and as Brad Childress used to say, 'when the bullets fly' so to speak, Tarvaris has his issues."

Zulgad refers to Jackson's entire career body of work there, but especially his struggles in the playoffs in 2008, where he went 15-for-35 for 164 yards in the game with no touchdowns and one interception in a Wild Card Playoff round with a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

He's had his fair share of decent games as well - and seems to fit the mold as a game-manager type QB. The previous 3 games before the not-so-brilliant start in the playoffs that year, he showed consistency and the ability to take care of the ball. In those 3 games, here are his numbers: He went 11-17 for 165 yards, 4TDs to 0 interceptions to beat the eventual NFC Champion Arizona Cardinals; he went 22-36 for 233 yards and 1 TD to 0 interceptions in a loss to the Falcons; then in the final game of the season, he went 16-26 for 239 yards with a TD and a pick lead the Vikings in victory over the Giants.

He lost his starting job the next season (after the poor performance in the playoffs that I mentioned above) and has only started one game since. Could be better, could be worse.

Regardless, what Tarvaris brings to the Seahawks is a big arm and some mobility. Moreover, he knows the offense so should be able to convey it to our offense in short order. He will be cheap. He will not cost us any draft picks. He could be a bridge to the QBOTF, whenever he arrives in town.

It's not clear at this point that the Seahawks are done in the quarterback free agency sweepstakes, but it seems Jackson will be brought in to compete with Charlie Whitehurst for the starting position this season.

Yo yo yo. Today's post title is one of the most summery songs ever by Pheonix, go check it out- its fabulous. One thing I love about JEM is her obsession with nail polish, if we ever want to buy a new Barry M or Models Own nail polish we always check with the other as to whether we have it or not. Baby pinks are not one of those colours I am that fond of, however after seeing pastal shades on loads of your blogs I decided to give this a whirl. Luckily I could call on JEM to borrow this summery shade off.

Barry M Strawberry Ice Cream.

On these pictures I have used two coats, and I am in love with the colour. As raisin face would say "its to DIE for". Like all Barry M colours 2 coats is more than enough, and it drys super quick. However one thing which I do not like about pastel nail polishes from Barry M is how streaky the polish is.

Check out my middle finger- how streaky is this. Also one of my pet hates (which you can see on my ring finger) is when you can see the whites of your nail through a polish. However another coat of polish will easily rectify this problem. I do like this colour, however I don't think I will purchase it myself- I'll just pinch JEM's. Another bonus of this polish is its work friendly.

Speaking of JEM she will be making a return to the blog in the not so distant future.

Sergio Batista resigns as coach of Argentina

(CNN) -- Coach Sergio Batista has paid the price for Argentina's unsuccessful 2011 Copa America campaign after having his contract canceled on Monday.

Expectations had been high with Argentina hosting the tournament and seeking a record 15th title, but "La Albiceleste" lost on penalties in the quarterfinals to neighbors Uruguay -- who went on to claim that milestone instead.

Batista, a World Cup winner as a player in 1986, replaced the iconic Diego Maradona as coach in July 2010, having previously guided his country's Olympic team to a gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Games.

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) hopes to announce a successor to the 48-year-old former Argentinos Juniors boss within a week.

"The national teams committee has decided to rescind the contract that attached Mr. Batista with the Argentinian Football Association," AFA spokesman Ernesto Cherquis Bialo told reporters.

"In a very good-natured, mature telephone conversation, Mr. Batista and Mr. Julio Grondona (the AFA president) talked and Batista left his situation in the hands of the AFA.

"Batista is a man who does not need any explanation. He talked to the AFA president and allowed him to decide whatever he considers the right thing."

Cherquis Bialo said the AFA would now take time to consider potential candidates to replace Batista.

"In the upcoming seven days, we hope we can reveal the name of the new coach. The candidates' names will be evaluated by the national teams committee," he said.

The main objective for the new head coach will be qualification for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, a campaign which begins on October 7 with a home match against Chile.

Bankers: Home, auto loans pinch as RBI tightens policy

Reserve Bank's decision to raise key rates for the third time in the current fiscal would make home, auto and corporate loans expensive by up to 50 basis points, burning another hole in the pocket of the consumer already burdened with high inflation.

"The hike is more than expected and it will push interest rates (lending and deposits) up by upto 50 basis points," Oriental Bank of Commerce Executive Director SC Sinha told PTI. Within an hour of the monetary action by RBI, private sector YES bank raised base rate or minimum lending rate by 50 basis points.

The RBI has raised the short-term lending (repo) rate by 50 basis points to 8% and the short-term borrowing (reverse repo) rate will move up by a similar margin to 7%. Subsequently, the interest rate under the Marginal Standing Facility, an additional borrowing window, has gone up to 9% from the earlier level of 8.5%.

This is the 11th time since March, 2010, that the RBI has raised the interest rate to check inflation, which is currently ruling at over 9%. RBI's action is in a direction which creates persistent pressure on credit demand. ALCO (Asset Liability Committee) needs to review on the transmission mechanism and timing, said Bank of Baroda Executive Director R K Bakshi.

The rate hike by the RBI will definitely slowdown credit demand, Bakshi added. According to Indian Overseas Bank Executive Director A K Bansal, sooner than later, both lending and deposit rates will go up. Banks would take a call on interest rates in their respective ALCO in the next few days, Bansal said.

Lenovo B520 All-in-One Pc | Lenovo Unveils IdeaCentre B520 3D Multi-Touch PC

Lenovo recently announced the B520 an All-in-One (AIO) multi-touch screen and 3D enabled desktop PC at a time when tablets and smartphones sales are slowly eating into the sales of PC’s. However, we at PCWorld India feel that the B520 (despite the steep price Rs. 71,990) is a good buy because of the following reasons.

1. Multi-touch screen and 3D

Though 3D hasn’t caught the attention of many people, it is definitely here to stay and the technology to look out for in the future. Also incorporating multi-touch on a desktop is also a good addition for those who have been used to the touchscreen on smartphones and tablets. Also with what we have seen of Windows 8 as of now, which veers towards a more touch-based experience (tiles), we would expect the B520 to be a good option when you upgrade to the new OS.

2. Gaming Galore

The B520 has a decent mobile graphic solution in the Nvidia GT555M and coupled with that the optional upgrade to a mouse that doubles up as a motion controller is also a great plus-point. Imagine playing games like the ones on the WII.

3. No More Storage Woes

A 2TB HDD solves your storage issues and the optional upgrade to an SSD is also good for those who give priority to performance/speed over storage quantity.

4. Multimedia Powerhouse

With a large 23-inch screen and a integrated 5.0 channel audio output the B520 is great for your multimedia solution and apart form that the one touch OneKey TV2 that turns the display into a High-def TV at the click of a button is also a great add-on.

Rakhi Sawant wants no string attached to her panties

When it comes to wardrobe and dressing up, celebrities take extra steps to make sure they are well turned out. But item girl and television actor, Rakhi Sawant has gone a step ahead.

The producers of a show that Sawant has been roped in for were in a tizzy with her when she made a bizarre demand.

Sawant has been preparing to host Gajab Desh Ki Ajab Kahaniyan and has lost a lot of weight to look slim and svelte.

While she has told the production house about her demands when it comes to clothes and accessories, the crew became apparently miffed with the starlet as her bills shot up beyond the estimated budget.

A source from the production house says, “Rakhi, who’s hosting the show, put forth her demands in terms of clothes and accessories. The cost of her wardrobe is around Rs70 lakh, way beyond what we had expected it to be… We are still negotiating. As if all this wasn’t enough, Rakhi recently read a lot about C-string and wants them to be included in her clothes. While her clothes aren’t a problem, getting a C-string is difficult. It’s not available in the Indian markets yet, but she has issued us an ultimatum and will refuse to shoot unless she gets them.”

C-string is a modified version of G-string lingerie and is already a rage abroad. And Sawant apparently wants to be the first Indian actor to wear the strangless thongs. She has told the production house to get her lingerie piece in three colours — red, pink and purple, and won’t start shooting for the show until she gets them. Since then the entire crew apparently has been grappling to fulfill her demands.

RIM to cut 2,000 jobs as iPhone market share grows

Research In Motion Ltd., maker of the BlackBerry smart phone, plans to cut 2,000 jobs, or about a tenth of its workforce, as sales slow amid market share losses to Apple's iPhone.

The reductions, across all functions, are part of a plan to "focus on areas that offer the highest growth opportunities," RIM said Monday. The job cuts will leave the Canadian company with about 17,000 employees.

RIM predicted last month that sales this quarter may drop for the first time in nine years. The company is losing market share in the United States to the iPhone and handsets running Google's Android software, in part because it hasn't introduced a major new BlackBerry model since August. Cheaper Google phones are also making inroads in Latin America, Asia and Europe, threatening the popularity of less expensive BlackBerry models like the Curve.

Monday's announcement "takes care of the expenses and they still need to focus on the revenue side," said Alkesh Shah, an analyst at Evercore Partners Inc. in New York. "They need to find a way to make consumers get excited about RIM products. At this point they haven't gotten there."

While RIM had said June 16 it would cut jobs, the figure of 2,000 "is more significant than previously suggested" by co-CEO Jim Balsillie, said Mike Abramsky, an analyst at RBC Capital Markets in Toronto, who rates RIM "sector perform."

When asked about the restructuring plan by one analyst on a June 16 conference call, Balsillie had said: "I would not call it a restructuring and I think that's just radically mischaracterizing it."

The company said Monday any charges associated with the job cuts including severance packages aren't included in its forecasts for the current quarter and fiscal year. RIM will give details on the financial implications of the job cuts when it reports fiscal second-quarter results Sept. 15.

RIM, whose management structure has come under increasing scrutiny from investors, also said it reassigned some senior managers' responsibilities and titles.

Chief Operating Officer Don Morrison, currently on medical leave, plans to retire and Jim Rowan has taken on the expanded role of COO for operations, RIM said Monday. The company named Thorsten Heins to the enlarged position of COO for product and sales, overseeing product engineering, hardware and software.

The promotion of Heins, a former Siemens AG manager who joined RIM in 2007, and a move to bring hardware and software under the leadership of one executive should accelerate product development, said Shah, who has an "equal weight" rating on RIM.

"Thorsten, with his Siemens background, is known as somebody who is exceptionally operationally efficient," Shah said. "That's a positive for the upcoming margin pressure that is likely."

RIM also appointed Patrick Spence as managing director of global sales and regional marketing. Chief Information Officer Robin Bienfait will also oversee the enterprise business.
