MM.com speaks to Asin about working with Salman Khan, the difference between him and Aamir Khan and her alleged link-up with Neil Nitin Mukesh

Asin Thottumkal, the import from the South, who made an entry into Bollywood with Ghajini opposite Aamir Khan, will now be seen opposite Salman Khan in Ready which releases on June 3.

We got a glimpse into Asin’s mind at the recording room in the T-series office. Excerpts:

What made you take a break after London Dreams?

The break wasn’t intentional, but I wanted to work with a team of new people. I felt Ready was apt as my next film.

What is your role in Ready?

I play the role of Sanjana, who is close to her family but faces certain problems with her uncle when she returns to India. While she’s dealing with the problem, she comes in contact with Prem (Salman Khan). He comes forward to help her with that problem and how they fall in love in the midst of this entire thing.

How was it working with Salman Khan again?

We gelled well during London Dreams, so while doing Ready we already shared a good rapport and he was very supportive and chilled out. He is very comfortable with me as I get his straight-faced sense of humour.

Salman Khan is said to be very short-tempered. How was it on the sets?

I personally never experienced his notorious side. He is very pure from his heart and direct with people. In fact, he’s very encouraging to new talent. A lot of strugglers came on the sets with their portfolios to get his guidance and he took a few talented ones under his wings.

Which is your favorite track from the album?

I love dancing and luckily, I got a chance to shake my booty in ‘Dhinka Chika’ (smiles). It’s my favorite song. The song has peppy beats and is shot colourfully.

Are you disappointed you’re not there in the ‘Character Dheela’ song?

‘Character Dheela’ is the first song in the film which introduces Prem (Salman’s character). It would not make sense for me to do it because it is much before the introduction of my character (Sanjana).

How different are Salman and Aamir in terms of their working styles?

Salman is very spontaneous. There is not much of a discussion before the scene. You have to be alert and react to whatever he delivers during the shot. Meanwhile, Aamir would discuss the scene before the camera is rolling. But he always gets the approval of the director first.

Do you plan to act only in commercial films?

I have no restrictions but the ideal situation for me currently is to grab a role in a commercial film with scope for histrionics, which is difficult.

What do you have to say about your rumor of dating Neil Nitin Mukesh?

People should not misunderstand our friendship. It’s just a figment of a journalist’s imagination. I am quite single.

Killer bacteria claims victims in Germany, Sweden

A killer bacteria linked to contaminated cucumbers claimed a 15th victim in Germany on Tuesday and its first fatality abroad when a Swedish woman who had been traveling in Germany died, authorities said.

One of the largest E.coli outbreaks of its kind, it has also made more than 1,000 people ill in Germany as well as people from Spain, Sweden, Britain, Denmark, France and the Netherlands who had recently been in Germany.
It has also caused diplomatic tension between Germany and countries such as Spain, France and Russia. The source of the virulent strain of the bacteria is unknown, authorities said. Most of the deaths have been in northern Germany.
The E. coli pathogen has been identified on cucumbers imported from Spain, but it is not clear if they were contaminated there, during transport, or possibly in Germany.
"The situation is tense but it can be dealt with," said Health Minister Daniel Bahr at a news conference late on Monday. He said he expected the number of cases to continue rising.
The German government has identified the disease as hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS), a serious complication of a type of E. coli known as Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC).
Russia has banned vegetable imports from Germany and Spain and said it may expand the ban to all European Union member states, head of Russia's Federal Consumer Protection Agency Gennady Onishchenko was quoted by corporate-owned Interfax news agency as saying.
"If the situation does not change, we will ban all the European vegetable products," he said.
Spanish farmers are losing around 200 million euros ($286 million) per week in lost sales because of it, a farmers association said on Tuesday.
German authorities have warned consumers to avoid eating cucumbers, lettuces and tomatoes.
GROWING TENSION
Spain said on Monday there was no proof that cucumbers from its growers had caused the outbreak of E.coli in Germany and that it would be demanding to know why its farmers had been blamed.
Spanish media reported Germany, Denmark, Czech Republic, Luxembourg, Hungary, Sweden, Belgium and Russia are blocking entry of Spanish cucumbers.
In a further sign of growing tension in Europe, French Health Minister Xavier Bertrand demanded in a TV interview on Tuesday greater transparency from Spain and Germany over the mysterious outbreak after three people in France became ill.
"At first the German authorities were categorical," he said. "Today there are more and more questions arising. I want to know the origin (of the contamination)," Bertrand told France 2 television. "We need completely transparent information from the German authorities, and from the Spanish authorities as well.
Hungary's news agency MTI cited Spain's Minister for Environment and Rural Affairs Rosa Aguilar as saying on Tuesday ahead of an informal meeting of EU farm ministers in eastern Hungary that the bacteria which had killed several people had not been identified in Spain before.
"From the Spanish side there will be two important topics at today's discussion: on the one hand we wish to make it clear that Spanish products are safe and of good quality -- on the other hand we advocate a common solution," the minister said.
In Brussels, the European Commission said: "The Commission notes that the outbreak is limited geographically to an area surrounding the city of Hamburg.
"Also, efforts to pinpoint all possible sources of contamination are well under way and have already yielded preliminary results. It would, therefore, consider any ban on any product as disproportionate."
In the Netherlands, a Dutch horticulture group said exports of cucumbers to Germany, the most important market, had all but halted and it Dutch farmers were losing millions of euros.
The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) said in a risk assessment that the HUS/STEC outbreak is one the largest in the world of its kind.
HUS affects the blood, kidneys and, in severe cases, the nervous system and can be particularly serious for children and the elderly. In an average year, around 60 cases of HUS are reported in Germany, the government said.

Pharm) and also for awarding fellowships/scholarships to Pharmacy Graduates along with engineering graduates. The Organizing Committee for GATE expressed its inability to include Pharmacy graduates in GATE with effect from the year 2010, owing to operational problems due to large number of candidates appearing for GATE examination.

As you read this and JEM's post below, I should be recovering from seeing my beloved Take That, so like the good blogger I am, I've pre-scheduled todays posts. Another aspect which you wanted to see on the blog was more hauls, now as you know I buy a lot of clothes and I never post pictures of them, bar from the occasional night out photos. I think the items below are all the clothes etc I've bought this month, I really can't remember as due to Primark and Topshop's dodgy sizing I've returned quite a lot of items.

Lemon Flower Print Twist vest (warning this is small fitting across the old boobage, so I got mine 2 sizes bigger).

New Look Skinny Leg Jeans-  I hate New Look sizing for Jeans, I couldn't get my normal size over my knees. Not happy about this, but I needed some light coloured jeans to wear for Take That and Primark didn't have any light jeans in.

Primark Long Gold Necklace- only £3.50 and it looks very similiar to the one I bought for £12 from Topshop last year. Mr T eat your heart out.

Primark Satchel- bargain at £9. I needed an across the body bag ready for Take That and this fit the bill. I know there is a lighter version of this bag (I'm sure Hayley has it), however I prefer the Tan. You can get loads in it.

Primark Maxi Dress- had to get this 2 sizes smaller as it looked like a tent on, however I love the colour and for £9 you can't be robbed. I can't believe how long Primark maxi dresses are, considering I'm 5'10" and this trails on the floor for me. Think this may get an airing out this week.

LOS ANGELES — Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro is featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated magazine this week, but he wasn’t exactly sure what it meant.
Cubs player development director Oneri Fleita called Castro with the news early Tuesday and someone showed him the photograph.
“[Fleita] told me this magazine is nice,” Castro said Tuesday.
The youngest player in the Major Leagues at 21, Castro collected 40 hits in the first month, tying the Major League record for most April hits by a player 21 or younger. Alex Rodriguez had 40 hits in April 1997.
“He’s fun to play next to,” Cubs second baseman Darwin Barney said of Castro. “He’s so athletic that you can do a lot of things. We both think we have range and we love playing together.
“Seeing him on the cover is pretty awesome. It’s really cool and I’m happy for him. the guy’s worked really hard and his growth is unbelievable. when I think about where I was at 21, I was still questioning myself and trying to learn what kind of player I was. It’s probably not the last time he’ll be on the cover of some magazine.”
However, there is the matter of the Sports Illustrated jinx.
“How many do you have to deal with?” Cubs manager Mike Quade said. “You have the sophomore [jinx], the S.I. [jinx]. If there’s two jinxes, do they cancel each other out?
“I know he’s well aware of the notoriety of being on the cover of Sports Illustrated. he still understands that doesn’t make him king of all shortstops. he still has work to do to get better.”

Cubs infielder Jeff Baker was available to pinch-hit on Tuesday and could start Wednesday in the series finale against the Dodgers. He’s been sidelined with a sore left shoulder.
“He’s a tough kid and he wanted to pinch-hit [Monday],” Cubs manager Mike Quade said. “That’s what you want to hear.”

Survivors of the Battle of Midway and Navy and Marine Corps veterans of World War II are invited to a wreath laying ceremony at the Naval Support Activity Mechanicsburg to commemorate the great American Naval victory.
The ceremony will take place Friday, June 3 at 9 a.m. in front of NSA's saluting guns, one of which was on USS Hornet, a carrier which played a pivotal role in the battle.
The event will not be open to the public, but Midway survivors and family members of survivors, and to all WWII Navy and Marine Corps veterans and their family members, are invited to attend.

The United States Navy inflicted irreparable damage to the Imperial Japanese Navy during the battle, which took place between June 4-6, 1942, just six months after the attack on the United States at Pearl Harbor.

X-factor India with Shreya Ghoshal, Sonu Nigam and Sanjay Bhansali

Shreya, Sonu and Sanjay to judge music reality show X-Factor India.

Shreya Ghoshal is not new to music-reality shows but this is the first time she is the judge of one, and the process is turning out to be an emotion one as it is making her reflect and think about her own journey.

Judging X-Factor has brought back memories of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa for Shreya, who herself was a participant in the show. Incidentally it was Shreya’s performance on the music-reality show that caught Bhansali’s attention, who then gave her the big break as a singer in Devdas. Sheriya’s five songs in Devdas - Silsila Ye Chaahat Ka, Bairi Piya, Chalak Chalak, Morey Piya and Dola Re Dola - helped her fetch both the Filmfare award for Best Female Playback Singer and the Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent.

Talking about X-Factor, Shreya says the experience is even more special as she is judging the show along with two musical icons in Sanjay and Sonu,

"Judging with Sanjayji and Sonu makes it even more special, because the credibility, the musical expanse that is associated with both of them. They are the cream of music icons today," says Shreya.

Shreya is completely in admiration of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s musical abilities, "Guzaarish is completely composed by him. I think somewhere music inspires films for him. For me he is the encyclopedia of good music. He has heard so much that he is just superb," Shreya has been quoted.

Shreya is not entirely specific about what 'X-factor' actually is, beyond that it has to be captivating, and that one is born with it.

"One is born with X-factor. Usually one feels X-factor is something where people jump and show their enthusiasm and all that. Most of our singers don't do that. Lataji does not do that and she is magnificent. It is not specific what X-factor actually is...it has to be captivating,"

Down like a sack of spuds...

Hope everyone is having a fab bank holiday weekend- remember to make the most of this as there's no more long weekends until August :(


If you follow me on twitter you may have noted that the other week I got into a bit of a bidding war on ebay for a polka dot blouse form Topshop. I was having that shirt whether the other bidder liked it or not. So basically it involved me paying WAY over the odds for it, however its love. However its a prime example of how rubbish the sizing is in Topshop- this shirt was too big on me and it was a size 8- sorry but I ain't a size 8 (flattering to the ego, yes, but in reality I know I'm not).


So back on twitter last Sunday, I was complaining about my war wounds from falling over, outside of le shack in the smoking area in front of everyone. Best thing was, I was sober when it happened. My cousin pulled on my arm while I was standing on some guttering, I went over on my ankle and then went down like a sack of spuds. Even though I lost my dignity while I was down on the floor, and I was mortified, luckily the lederhosen protected my modisty haha.

MoMA And Volkswagen's Multi-Million Dollar Partnership

On Monday, Volkswagen and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York announced a two-year, multi-million dollar partnership. The German auto giant will provide sponsorship for the museum's exhibitions and education programs, and will donate two pieces by Belgian artist Francis Alÿs to MoMA's permanent collection.
MoMA assures us, however, that the museum's tastes have not changed. Kim Mitchell, MoMA's Chief Communication Officer, told the Huffington Post that "while Volkswagen's generous support makes these programs possible, they will not be playing a curatorial or advisory role in the development of the content."
Though the partners did not disclose the total amount of Volkswagen's support, MoMA director Glenn D. Lowry was quoted in Bloomberg, saying: “The scale of support is absolutely remarkable from our perspective.”
WNYC reports Volkswagen President Dr. Martin Winterkorn's comments on the partnership, which he hopes will help his company "understand American culture better."
Some may recognize in this agreement the specter of BP's sponsorship of the Tate, a partnership that was heavily scrutinized last year. The English oil giant was accused in the Guardian of being less concerned with the art than with improving its brand identity and gaining access to "glitzy events at which it can foster vital relationships with ministers, journalists and foreign dignitaries."
Although BP's connection to the arts was tenuous at best, the Volkswagen Group has had an affinity for design and image-making for decades. Even aside from designs like the well-known Beetle and Type 2 (the "Volkswagen Bus"), the company has overseen a particularly well-received TV ad campaign. Car culture blog Jalopnik has opined that "it was Volkswagen that first made an art form out of the automotive television advertisement."

Sailing through the busy canals of Venice, Italy next month will be a giant mobile video screen featuring the work of more than 80 artists; the week-long, water-going version of a New York City cab elevated for the biggest and baddest biennial in the world. Presented by Moscow's Garage Center for Contemporary Culture, and running (or sailing) concurrently with the opening week of the 54th Venice Biennale, COMMERICAL BREAK is curated by Neville Wakefield and will include contemporary painting bigwig Richard Phillips' first foray into film, Lindsay Lohan.
The short film, which features the famously-troubled blonde mega-celebrity in all manner of brooding, bikini-clad swimming and sunning scenes; a portrait of the star that vividly evokes the decades-old cinematic tropes of sexy fragrance ads, in keeping with the floating exhibition's theme of navigating commercial and creative combinations. It's also apropos of the setting next month in Venice, when tourists and art-makers share the streets for the Biennale's five-month stretch.

Reminiscent of classic bombshell swimsuit moments -- á la "10" starring Bo Derek -- the film is the quintessence of convention, to the point of banality. (And that's the point). Viewers should expect as much from Phillips' filmic debut as they should from a Calvin Klein Obsession ad, but with a much better soundtrack. San Franciso's Tamaryn provides the score for the minute-and-a-half film, whose epically lush, shoegazey track "Cascades" ripples over each cascading wave caught on film. Lohan is less significant for being a pretty insignificant piece of work, and more so for what it will bring to Wakefield's smart, floating show.

It seems Salman Khan wants Ready to rock to his own rhythm and has taken charge of the destiny of the film's release. Director Anees Bazmee has been sportingly justifying all his impositions as friendly collaboration, but apparently a difference of opinion recently came up between the two.

"It was for a chase sequence. Salman wanted it edited in a particular way. But Anees thought it was fine the way it was. The two of them had a heated argument over the issue," said a source.

Bazmee said, "It was a pre-climactic chase sequence. Salman's character pursues the goons in an auto-rickshaw. I wanted it shorter, no more than three minutes of playing-time. Salman wanted it to go on a little longer because he thought the kids would enjoy it. So we extended it to four minutes. That's it." "There has been no major argument as such. I've shown the edited portions to Salman as I've done to all my heroes in other films. What's wrong with that? Yes, I did change the chase sequence on his suggestion because it made sense to do so," he added.

Ready is coming out on 3rd June and Salman will be seen with host of other actors - Asin Thottumkal, Arya Babbar, Mahesh Manjrekar and Paresh Rawa - in the film about a rich heir who wants to enjoy life before tying the knot.

Her last Tamil film, Kavalan, did average business at the BO, giving her career and that of her co-star Vijay an impetus. It also seemed a smart move, given that in the time since her move to Mumbai, Asin has had only two releases, the last of which (London Dreams) was a dud.

Now, she's back with her third Hindi film, with which she's not only hoping to up her game, but also figure out if audiences appreciate her on-screen pairing with good pal Salman Khan. "London Dreams, my first film with Salman, didn't work at the BO, so audiences may wonder if our pairing will actually work. While I cannot be a judge of our on-screen chemistry, the fact that this is our second film together helps. There is chemistry if there is some kind of basic understanding between actors, which I have with Salman. I share a rapport with him and even get his straight-faced sense of humour. But the script also needs to give us something to work on. London Dreams missed out there," says Asin.

The actress, who doesn't have any south projects in hand at the moment, has a a lot riding on the success of this film. And early next month, she is off to London to shoot for Sajid Khan's Housefull 2. "Housefull 2 goes on the floors next month. We're shooting in London for a month and a half, so I'm not going to be around to see how my film does at the BO. But I've never worried about the final product if I've given it my all," says Asin, adding that she's excited to be working with Akshay Kumar in Housefull 2. "This is also going to be my first attempt at out-and-out comedy. I'm going to have a blast," she says.

But why isn't Asin doing more south films? She's been claiming that offers continue to come in droves. "I have offers, but if I were to take up any of them, it would have to be a script that would let me do something that I haven't yet done. I can't keep repeating myself," she signs off.

The smartphone market in India is really getting crowded and competitive. Now, HTC will add to the choice of Android phones that you can buy, with the launch of the HTC Wildfire S.

In terms of specifications, this baby’s no slouch. Powered by Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread and running HTC’s celebrated Sense UI, it also features a 5 MP autofocus camera with LED flash, a 3.2-inch capacitive HVGA display and measures just 10.13cm long, 5.94cm wide and 12.4 mm thick. In terms of power, it has a 600 MHz processor and 512 MB RAM. It also has a slot for an expandable MicroSD card memory.

But we ‘re saving the best for the last. Given this impressive feature list, HTC has priced this device only at around Rs. 14,000, making it an absolutely “paisa vasool” deal! We think this has got to be the best entry level Android phone on the market right now, given HTC’s recent revival and subsequent excellence in hardware, and should do very well in the market.

28th May 2011. Results will be published at 6 PM. Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2011 was held at 15 centers and more than 24,000 students were appeared in the test across the nation.

1,100 seats in 11 law schools are up for grabs this year. As soon as CLAT exam results 2011 will be out here candidates will be provided results online.

Nalsar University is one the participating universities. It gave info that there was an increment in the number of students appearing for the CLAT 2011. For CLAT 2012, 2 more law schools from Orissa and Delhi will participate.

Nosey Nosey

4.30 can't come quick enough, this week has dragged and then kinda flown over. Just bought the most lush pair of heels ever on my lunch, will post them next week sometime. I've collected everything clothes wise I've bought over the last month to do one massive collective haul post for you.

Far too excited for Monday to see the mighty 4 piece that is TAKE THAT with the has been Plobbie there for the craic too. Still no babyJEM, J is well and truely fed up now and everything she tries to kick start labour isn't happening- my money is she gives birth on Monday.

So last Saturday night, or as it should now be named as "The night Ray went down like a sack of spuds" I was out causing scences (whats new there) and I thought I would do a quick whats in my bag post. I've got an outfit post and some random pictures of the night too but I haven't had time in sorting my camera out, so that will be up next week sometime??

Put another shrimp on the barbie- NOTD

I actually have quite a backlog of NOTD pictures to share with you all, so I may do a NOTD week- I don't know yet- I might not. So these pictures were taken over Easter weekend, while my extensions were still on, I've since had my extensions taken off, so some future nail posts may be of my extensions. I'm planning on doing a seperate post of the condition of my nails since the extensions have come off, and there is no damage on my natural nails.


My new favourite summer nail polish-

OPI Cajun Shrimp.

As you can see this is a fab coral based red- a fab take on pillar box red. My Blackberry hasn't really picked the colour up that well, but its bright!!

Ignore the state of the bottoms (well top on that picture) of my nails- I couldn't get an appointment to get my nails off, so I was stuck with them (and its a shoddy paint job by me). Like all OPI colours which I have used on my extensions, the colour has lasted a good 5 days before any wear on the top of my nails.

The consistency of the polish isn't as thick as Model's Own polishes and you do need  2-3 coats to get a good coverage, however as you can tell by the colour- its definately worth it.

 However...

I'm currently wearing another OPI colour on my natural nails, and lets just say the colour has lasted a day before the dreaded chipping is back.

Once upon a time there was a little TV show called Byker Grove on BBC1 which followed the lives of a bunch of kids who went to an after school club in a little old place called Byker in Newcastle. Along with its catchy/annoying theme tune- this put Newcastle on the map.
