Flyers Drop Playoff Opener 1-0 To Buffalo

Regular Season: Series tied 2-2. The Sabres clinched a playoff spot with a 4-3 overtime victory over the the Flyers in their second-last game of the season.

How they Match Up: The Philadelphia Flyers limped into the playoffs with all the momentum of a baby crawling in maple syrup. They went 7-7-6 in their final 20 games of the regular season and fell out of top spot in the conference. The Sabres, on the other hand, went 13-4-3 in their final 20, which included two victories over Philadelphia.

History:

The Flyers are the defending Eastern Conference champions and they came only two wins short of the Stanley Cup last season.

The Flyers and Sabres have met several times in past playoffs, but the teams wouldn’t exactly be considered heated rivals. The most famous moment in Flyers/Sabres playoff history may have been the fog/bat game in the 1975 Stanley Cup Final:
