The Samsung Galaxy S2 proved to be a game changer for the Korean manufacturing giant. Having tasted phenomenal success, the grapevine indicates that Samsung is gearing up to launch the third generation device in the Galaxy S series. The Galaxy S2 hit over 3 million units within 55 days of its launch, surpassing its predecessor Samsung Galaxy S and if the speculated specs report on Galaxy S3 holds truth, we shall see even a bigger sales figure.
Our sister site Knowyourmobile had earlier reported in May that J.K. Shin, president of Samsung's mobile communications division had said that Samsung may launch a third version of its Galaxy S smartphone in the first half of next year. Shin had also added, "the race for 4G (fourth-generation) has already started." He also hinted on the inclusion of 4G on future Galaxy Tablets.
In comparison to its sibling Galaxy S2, Galaxy S3 is rumored to come packed with a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen, a 12-mega pixel plus camera and a slimmer casing. It appears that we will also be seeing the popular Near Field Communication technology and 4G capabilities in the new device. Talking about the Android operating system, there is only one answer- Ice cream Sandwich. While a quad core CPU is rumored, don't be surprised, to see the device bear a Nvidia’s Kal-El mark.
We are hoping that like Galaxy S2, for Galaxy S3 India will be one of its first stops as well. The current Samsung vs Apple patent lawsuits has caused a dynamic shift in things.
As Apple continues to block Samsung launches in US and Europe, Samsung is looking to revise its strategy. If the growing disputes are any indication, we shall be seeing more "new arrivals "in India. Hopefully for next year a early visit from Galaxy S3 and iphone 5 may be on the cards.
Meanwhile we are glued to Galaxy S3 and what it will constitute to supersede its predecessor Galaxy S2.
