One of Sierra Leone’s most outstanding and prolific teenage strikers in the ongoing Sierra Leone Premier League, Donald Wellington alias ‘Kobor Kobor,’ has been invited for a trial with Norwegian top division club, Stabæk Fotball club. The 18-year old Ports Authority FC goal poacher was spotted earlier this month during Leone Stars training sessions in preparation for their match against Niger in the 2012 AFCON qualifiers in Freetown.
In a chat with the player he told Sierra Express Media Sports that the trials will start in July, noting that he is delighted for the trials and determined to give out his best.
“I’m happy for the invitation and I’ll not waste this chance because it is my dream to play professional football,” Wellington stressed.
He added: “I’ll give out my best and I’m confident that I’ll succeed because I believe in myself.”
Currently Wellington is joint top goal scorer in the Sierra Leone Premier League with six goals and he was the highest goal scorer of the 2009/2010 league netting 13 goals.
He’s regarded as one of the best home based players in Sierra Leone at the moment, and was the only local-based player that featured in the Leone Stars team that defeated Niger 1-0 in Freetown two weeks ago.
Wellington has played for the Sierra Leone national Under 17, Under 20 and Olympic teams.
Stabæk Fotball are one of the top clubs in Norway as they are presently fifth position in the sixteen teams Eliteserien league and are three points behind the leaders Tromsø IL but lost on midweek to fellow Sierra Leonean player, Alfred Zagalo Sankoh’s side Stromgodset FF.
