The monorail is finally becoming a reality after many yeas and nays. It will be held in two phases with an estimated length of 60 km. The cost is estimated at Rs 140 crore per km, the total project cost to about Rs 8,400 crore.

Bangalore many felt should have gone to the Mono rail instead of metro. A government for everyone decided to go with the metro and mono rail. We call this democracy.

Monorail is very expensive and the return on investment [ROI] is very low. Mono Rail system costs Rs 120 crore per km, compared to Metro Rail R 75 million rupees per kilometer. Metro Rail had a capacity to carry passengers per hour from 45.000 to 50.000, while Mono Rail can carry only passengers per hour 10000-12000.

High Speed Train

The state government hopes the work will begin in February 2011. The railway will link from downtown to the international airport. HSRL is expected to have a travel time of 25 minutes to the airport and plans to have 20 trains daily.
