Dell Exec: Google's Motorola Buy Will Strengthen Android

BEIJING (Dow Jones)--Google Inc.'s (GOOG) acquisition of Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. (MMI) will strengthen the Android operating system platform by giving Google access to new patents, and Android will remain a "credible" option for use on tablet computers, the president for Dell Inc.'s (DELL) consumer and small business division in the Asia Pacific, Amit Midha, said Wednesday.

The acquisition is good news for Dell "as long as Android is a stronger platform," Midha said on a teleconference with reporters.

Dell sells a line of tablets running Android, including a 10-inch device it started selling only in China last month.

Microsoft Corp.'s (MSFT) Windows 8 will also be a credible choice for tablets, he said. Microsoft is widely expected to release Windows 8 next year.
