Sky News reports Rebekah Brooks’ arrest

Rebekah Brooks, the former chief executive of News International, was arrested on Sunday by officers investigating allegations of phone hacking, Sky News reported.

Ms. Brooks, 43, was being held on suspicion of conspiring to intercept communications and corruption allegations, the broadcaster reported.

Ms. Brooks, a confidante of media tycoon Rupert Murdoch, announced her resignation on Friday as chief executive of News International, the British arm of News Corp.

She is seen as one of the key figures in the phone hacking scandal that led to last week’s closure of the News of the World, of which she was editor-in-chief from 2000-03.
