Employee Provident Fund, Centre is planning to form a body similar like Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) for managing retirement funds and insurance of the small and medium enterprise (SME) segment. RP Singh, DIPP Secretary, said, “We are coming out with a concept paper. We are giving a framework of that organisation, which can come up as a commercially viable entity in the private sector and which will takeover the obligations of SMEs. The concept paper will be coming out in a day or two.
This new entity is expected to act as an alternative mechanism to EPFO and the Employee’s State Insurance Corporation (ESIC). Moreover, this new entity could levy charges for offering numerous services for the SME segment. The organisation would be collecting the money or subscription. It will also take over all the legal responsibilities of the SME segment.
