Salman didn’t let me work: Asin

Asin Thottumkal, who worked with Salman Khan for the second time in their latest release Ready, feels Salman being that senior in the industry was actually of no help during the film’s shoot.

“He just made it difficult for me to work. He was forever pulling my leg, be it on or off camera. He made it impossible for me to shoot by cracking jokes, making funny faces and dropping one liners. At times, I had to seriously tell him to shut up but he just wouldn’t listen,” says the 25-year-old jokingly, who also worked with Salman in London Dreams (2009).
Talking about her on-screen chemistry with the 45-year-old actor, she says, “There was something missing in London Dreams as we could not show our best, but we tried to compensate that in Ready.”
The film was released this Friday with a good opening, but the director Anees Bazmee is no where to be seen ever since the promotional activities began. Reason: Bazmee’s tiff with Salman Khan over some creative differences. However, Asin clarifies saying, “He was busy getting the film ready and therefore could not be seen with us.”
Ready is the hindi remake of 2008 Telugu film with the same title. Is the frequent exchange of content a result of lack of original ideas? “There has been a lot of interchange,  not just in terms of content but also in terms of talent. I feel it’s all about a story that appeals to Indian sensibilities, and is now being made open to different sections of the audience. Why take an English film and get inspired when we have such rich content within our country,” says Asin, who, at the end of the day, hopes that her character of a simple girl called Sanjana gets noticed in a Salman Khan film.
Asin speaks...

On Ready
I hope I am considered one of the best things in Ready apart from Salman Khan

On Comedy
I like doing comedy as it keeps the actor on his toes but doing comedy in front of Salman is a tough task.

On working with SRK
Asin has been signed opposite Shah Rukh Khan in the film 2 States but she says, “No comments on it right now.”
