friday night lights | Friday Night Lights S.5 Premiere, Fringe, Camelot & More | Friday Night Lights Season 5 Expectations

friday night lights

Friday Night Lights will be able to tune in to network TV (NBC) for the show’s fifth and final season. If you are both a fan and a subscriber to Direct TV, season five is old news; it aired there in October and finished out in February. But what strikes me about FNL – and why it seems fitting to write about it here at The Millions – is its appeal to those of us who live just outside of TV culture proper. In the vein of David Simon’s The Wire (which Simon has described as being conceived “as a novel”) and Matthew Weiner’s Mad Men, Peter Berg’s twice-adapted series — first from the nonfiction book by his cousin H.G. Bissinger, then from the feature film which he both wrote and directed — falls into a growing broadcast category, i.e. TV for readers
Prime Picks
Friday Night Lights (NBC): Season Premiere. Coach Taylor is trying to keep a damper on the expectations for the upcoming season. Tami isn’t very happy with her new job. Two prepare to head off to college. I’ve so been looking forward to this, but will be sad when it is all over. Yet, still very happy, cause we got way more of this show than I would’ve ever thought.
Fringe (FOX): New. The team is attempting to get William Bell’s consciousness out of Olivia before she is lost forever. Plays again late night tomorrow.
Camelot (Starz): New. Merlin begins looking for a sword that is fit for a king. Arthur begins sparring with Leontes in an attempt to impress Guinevere. Plays twice.
Solid Selections
Smallville (The CW): New. Clark gets sent back to the alternate reality again and meets Jonathan Kent. Lois needs Emil’s help.
Supernatural (The CW): New. Balthazar alters history by having the Titanic not sink and Fate has to intervene. Sam and Dean learn from Castiel that they must kill Fate to survive.
Sanctuary (Syfy): Spring Premiere. Ranna continues to try and protect Praxis. Magnus thinks she knows how to fix the tremors and power fluctuations. Plays again later. I got behind and missed the last three episodes of the first half of season three, so wasn’t really up on what is going down in the underground city. But, I still enjoyed tonight’s episode, as it is full of action and resolves the major impetus of the season thus far. It did make me wonder what are they going to do next, after going so big with this storyline. I look forward to finding out. As always the special effects are spectacular. Have you been looking forward to Sanctuary‘s return?
Sports Note
• MLB Network has the Texas Rangers at the New York Yankees.
Late Night
• Being Human (Syfy): Repeat. This past Monday’s first season finale episode, “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Me Killing You,” replays.
• Justified (FX): Repeat. This past Wednesday’s episode, “Debts and Accounts,” replays.

A&E has seven episodes of Criminal Minds tonight.
Bravo has six episodes of Millionaire Matchmaker.
Oxygen has 12 episodes of Roseanne.
Spike TV has nine episodes of Gangland.
